Autun (Day 220)
It was another grey miserable day, so we decided to visit one of the little nearby towns, this time Autun. When we got there the weather was certainly no better so we decided to take a trip on the petit train to escape the rain. Sadly I didn’t manage to get any great photos as the window of the train had rain pouring down in for most of the journey.
The train took in some lovely sites including the military school which has a magnificent glazed tile roof, the remains of the roman amphitheatre and some of the remains of the roman gateways that were once the only way into the town.
After the tour on the train we wandered around some of the small streets that made up this lovely little town. It was a bit of a shame that we had gone on a Monday as in this part of France most places either weren’t open at all on a Monday or they didn’t open till about 2pm. Down one of the covered shopping walkways I spotted this almost life-sized statue of a Briard.
